Since the Pandemic there has been a significant increase in the access of technology amongst students and teachers, while it can be a good thing it can also be a bad one. State testing has been moved to an online format and with all the online resources available it can be quite difficult knowing how to use it all within the classroom. Another thing to keep in mind is whether these online resources serve an academic purpose or use Critical Digital Pedagogy. When integrating technology into the classroom it is important to consider if students are engaging in at least one of the following: digital consumption, digital production, digital distribution, or digital invention. There are many web and mobile apps available for free and some that are paid for by the school district, so it is something worth looking into. Here, I will introduce 3 web/mobile apps that I plan on using in my own classroom:
Slack :
1.Slack is a mobile app that can be used for sharing and communication. Slack allows for people to communicate much faster than sending emails, it can be used for teams to communicate with each other but can also be used as a learning tool within the classroom. Slack is a mobile app that can be used for sharing and communication. Slack allows for people to communicate much faster than sending emails, it can be used for teams to communicate with each other but can also be used as a learning tool within the classroom. Slack can be used as a way for students to engage in discussion or dialogue with their group members to gather information they can use for the creation of a project or collaborate on an assignment. Slack allows for students to share some of their digital consumption in a way that allows them to collaborate to create or invent content. The information they share allows for multiple voices to be heard and diversity.
Popplet :
2. Popplet is a web application and mobile app that allows people to create mind maps. Mind maps allow people to visualize and organize their ideas and is an excellent tool for use within the classroom. Many teachers incorporate the use of graphic organizers in their classrooms, Popplet allows students to use a concept they are familiar with in a new way. Popplet can be used by individual students or groups to collaborate and put together ideas. This web/mobile app can assist students with digital production which allows students the freedom to create something in collaboration with one another or individually.
Poll Maker :
3. Poll Maker is a web-based app that allows users to create their own polls. This app allows users to easily create a poll in seconds and is rated the №1 online poll maker. Poll Maker allows for unlimited responses, live reporting and no signup or coding required. Students can use Poll Maker to make decisions within a group. There may be occasions when an assignment will require group collaboration in which decisions need to be made. Each student in the group will have ideas and opinions and this tool allows each student to be heard. Poll Maker can allow students to discuss their ideas or viewpoints as a group and make decisions, this aligns with digital production of their projects or assignment in which they get to make the choices and decisions for what they will produce
